How Do I Get Rid Of Black Mold On My Windows?

Previous Next
The insides of some of my windows here at house has some of that black mold forming on them. What is the best way to get rid of this stuff? I would then like to repaint the inside of my windows. Would that be okay?
Previous Next
Black mold is a result of moisture and condensation. I am going to assume that the mold is in the wood itself, meaning that all the finish is gone. The best way to kill the mold is by scrubbing it with a solution of 50% Javex bleach and 50% water. Sometimes two applications of this solution are required to get rid of all of the mold. Be sure to rinse it well with clear water after each bleach application. Then make sure the window sills are COMPLETELY dry before priming with a premium quality OIL BASED primer and finish paint in a semi or high gloss. I would also recommend placeing a bead of mildew resistant silicone (preferably clear) on after priming and painting to keep the moisture and condensation from getting underneath the paint, which will begin the cycle all over again.
